Drivers Responsibility Assessment (DRAP)
The drivers responsibility assessment (DRAP) is an annual fee you must pay to DMV each year for three consecutive years if you are convicted of certain traffic offenses in New York State or accumulate six or more points on your driving record within 18 months. Please be aware that this fee is in addition to any other fines, surcharges or penalties. They were created in 2004 to motivate people to improve their driving habits. The assessment fee focuses on driving any kind of vehicle on the road, water or snow while drinking or taking drugs, refusing to take a chemical test for blood alcohol levels or having more than 6 points on your license. The annual fee ranges from $100 per year for having 6 points on your license (within an 18 month period) plus $25 per for each additional point over 6, to $250 per year if you receive a drug or alcohol violation.
